Pretty n Pink Launches ‘A Gift of Comfort’

A Free Post-Surgery Bra for Breast Cancer Patients in Northern Ireland — Essential for Healing During Recovery

Pretty n Pink, Northern Ireland’s leading breast cancer charity, is privileged to launch ‘A Gift of Comfort’ — a new initiative offering a free post-surgical bra to those undergoing breast cancer surgery.

This service will be delivered in conjunction with the Southern Trust at the Glenanne Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital. It will be provided by the amazing breast cancer team, supporting women following mastectomy, lumpectomy, or reconstructive surgery.

The aftermath of surgery is often both physically and emotionally challenging. Many women are left without access to appropriate post-surgery bras that meet their needs, due to a lack of information and/or financial resources. ‘A Gift of Comfort’ ensures they are not overlooked during this critical stage of healing

Leanne Rooney, Operations Manager at Pretty n Pink

Currently, ‘A Gift of Comfort’ is the only FREE service of its kind in Northern Ireland, specifically tailored for women with a recent breast cancer diagnosis. The service addresses a significant gap in post-surgical care, providing specialist support that is typically expensive or difficult to access through public services

Stage Two: Professional Fitting Service with Trusted Charity Partners

There will be a second stage to this service in partnership with our charity partners — leading independent lingerie retailers Orchid Lingerie and The Lingerie Room.

This stage is designed to support women following breast cancer surgery, helping them regain comfort, dignity, and confidence during recovery. It will include a free professional post-surgery bra fitting service, conducted in a private, welcoming space by lingerie professionals trained in post-surgical breast cancer support.

The service is entirely confidential and carried out on a one-to-one basis, ensuring dignity and discretion throughout.

During the appointment, patients will be guided through a curated selection of specialist bras designed to:

  • Offer maximum comfort.
  • Accommodate prostheses, where needed.
  • Support post-surgical healing

The fittings are sensitive to each patient’s needs, with time and care given to address individual concerns and preferences in a respectful and supportive manner.

All bras provided are high-quality, soft-cup garments selected specifically for recovery from breast cancer surgery. Patients leave not only with a properly fitted bra, but also with a renewed sense of comfort and self-confidence.

Inspired by Real Lives: The Heart Behind the Campaign

‘A Gift of Comfort’ is fully funded by Pretty n Pink Breast Cancer Charity, with additional support and donations welcomed from the public and corporate sponsors to help the initiative grow and reach as many women as possible across the region.

This project has been shaped by Leanne’s personal experience with her sister Noleen and their mother Rose. Leanne has listened closely to patients’ feedback, gathering vital information from those directly affected, as well as from Pretty n Pink staff and volunteers, to ensure the service truly reflects real post-surgical needs.

Through these personal connections, the campaign carries a powerful emotional layer that reflects the love, strength, and resilience that define the journey of every woman facing breast cancer.

Through initiatives like ‘A Gift of Comfort’, Pretty n Pink continues to reinforce its commitment to supporting patients at every stage of their breast cancer journey.

This project not only continues to honour Noleen’s legacy but also embodies the charity’s core mission: To walk alongside patients from diagnosis, through recovery, and beyond.

It stands as a powerful testament to the strength of family and Pretty n Pink’s unwavering dedication to offering the care, comfort, and dignity every woman deserves during one of the most difficult times of her life.
