Pretty ‘n Pink carer’s support services

We have kindly received funding from The Community Foundation Northern Ireland, to launch the ‘Pretty n Pink Carer’s Support Services’ which will take place across 3 locations in Northern Ireland.

Pretty n Pink want to reach out to those who have provided and/or continue to provide a caring role to a patient. We are aware that a diagnosis can place an enormous amount of stress and worry on a patient and their family. There is an urgent need and a requirement to provide support services to those who are living with a patient of Breast Cancer. It is our intention to create various support services for those who provide care and we will use any funding we acquire to launch mental, emotional and physical wellbeing support services to carers.

The Pretty n Pink Carer’s Support Service will include workshops, therapies and support, such as:

  • Counselling/emotional support
  • Holistic and complementary therapies
  • Specific services for age and gender
Counselling/Emotional Support

  • Group and individual talking self-care/talk therapy/support groups for adults
  • Group and individual talking self-care/talk therapy/support groups for children/young adults
Charity Operations Manager Leanne Rooney commented:

My Sister Noleen, the founder of Pretty n Pink was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2001 at the age of 22. At that time, I was 19 years old and accompanied my sister to all hospital appointments and cared for her during her treatment, surgery re-diagnosis and gave her end-of-life care. The carer support services proposed by Pretty n Pink are services that have been required for a long time and are in great need. Given the recent pandemic and how that has affected people with their mental, emotional and physical health, I believe that there will be a huge uptake of people needing and using this service. I have seen first-hand how a conversation can help, how an invite for coffee lifts someone’s spirits and how knowing that there is someone there to support you there give you hope. I will continue to work and support those carers in whatever way I can

Listen to Carol & John’s story

Husband and wife Carol and John explain how Pretty ‘n’ Pink supported their family when Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer. The couple are a testament to the benefits of the Pretty n Pink support services and how it has impacted their family.
